December 22nd - second floor done - 1. Stock fertig

After the weekend construction continued at the usual fast pace and so we found the second floor and the framing for the roof complete. As we had some visitors from Phoenix in town we were ablet o welcome them to our new home and give them a little tour of our new castle. With Christmas coming up, we do expect the plumbing and basic wiring to get finished before the holiday and the roof to be insulated by the end of the week.

Nach dem Wochenende gingen die Bauarbeiten in gewohntem Tempo weiter und so fanden wir den 1. Sotck und den Rahmen des Daches fertig vor als wir wieder vorbeischauten. Da wir Bescuh aus Phoenix da hatten, konnten wir zum ersten Mal Besucher in unserem Shcloß empfangen. Da nun Weihnachten ansteht erwarten wir das nur alle Rohre für Wasser und die einfachen Stromverkabelungen installiert werden. Nach den Feiertagen geht es dann weiter.

December 19th - 2nd floor started - Bau am 2. Stock beginnt

After the first floor was completed we now got our staircase and were able to walk upstairs for the first time. No walls or anything else have been put up yet on the second floor, but this is about to come.

Nachdem das Erdgeschoss fertig ist haben wir nun unsere Treppe erhalten und es war uns zum ersten Mal möglich nach 'oben' zu gehen. Dort stehen allerdings noch keine Wände, aber ein Anfang ist ja schonmal gemacht.

December 17th - Ground floor complete - Erdgeschoss fertig

Construction is moving along very quickly and the ground floor was just finished. We are now waiting on the stairs to be put in so that the construction for the second floor can begin.

Die Bauarbeiten verlaufen nach Plan und das Erdgeschoss ist nun fertiggestellt. Wir warten nun darauf dass die Treppe eingesetzt wird um dann mit dem zweiten Stock beginnen zu können.

December 16th - Framing started - Der Rahmen wurde begonnen

Since we had an appointment with our landscaper at the lot we drove out there again last night not expecting anything to have happened but found that the construction of the frame had started already. As seen the foundation had just dried off and already the living room is done and Amber is looking out the kitchen window. The front wall is still missing, so is the frame for the garage, but it gives a good idea of the dimensions of the house.

Da wir einen Termin mit dem Landschaftbauer hatten, fuhren wir zu unserem Grundstück, allerdings ohne einen Fortschritt zu erwarten da das Fundament ja gerade erst gegossen wurde. Zu unserem Erstaunen fanden wir bereits einen Teil des Erdgeschosses fertig, es fehlt noch der Rahmen zu Garage und die Haustür. Amber kann aber schon aus dem Küchenfenster in den Garten gucken, oder in das WC gehen.

December 15th - Foundation is done - Fundament ist gegossen

After the weekend we finally managed to get our foundation done and are now waiting for it to dry without any rain interrupting this process. As seen in the picture the foundation is still being worked on, nevertheless it should be good to move to the next step in the building process tomorrow.

Nach einem trockenen Wochenende war es uns nun endlich möglich das Fundament zu giessen und nun hoffen wir das kein Regen diesen Prozess unterbricht. Wie man in dem Bild sehen kann wird noch an dem Fundament gearbeitet, man hofft aber das morgen schon mit dem Rahmen angefangen werden kann.

December 11th - All ready for the foundation - Das Fundament kann nun gegossen werden

The foundation can finally be poured after the blue wires were installed in the frame. These wires serve as a kind of suspension system for the foundation and help to avoid cracks throughout the upcoming years. With the weather being not as good, we now have to wait until there is a few days without the chance of rain.

Nachdem die blauen Kabel nun in dem Rahmen installiert wurden, kann das Fundament nun endlich gegossen werden. Die blauen Kabel dienen als eine Art Federung für das Fundament und sollen Risse und Brüche des Fundaments verhindern. Nun warten wir auf ein paar Tage mit niedriger Regenwahrscheinlichkeit um dann los zu legen.

Finally something going on - Endlich geht es los

After we had the meeting with the contractor yesterday we went back to day to take a look at our lot and were amazed about the progress in our new neighborhood. The houses to the left and right of us already got there frame, we are still waiting for the foundation to be poured. This will happen either tomorrow or in the beginning of next week, followed by the frame for the first floor a few days later. Finally there is progress, check back more often now to be up to date.

Nachdem wir gestern unseren Termin mit dem Bauunternehmer hatten sind wir heute wieder zu unserem Grundstück gefahren und waren schwer über den Fortschritt in unserer neuen Nachbarschaft erstaunt. Unsere Nachbarn haben bereits den Rahmen für das Erdgeschoss erhalten, wir warten noch darauf dass das Fundament gegossen wird. Dies passiert entweder morgen oder am Anfang nächster Woche, darauf folgt dann auch der Rahmen bei uns. Nun geht

es endlich los, schaut ab jetzt öfter vorbei, ein Hausbau in Vegas geht schnell.

Start Date is Confirmed - Bald geht es los

After we have visited our empty lot several times now, we finally got the start date for construction: December 9th. We are very excited to see some progress starting then and we will start the countdown. Talking about countdown: We also decorated our apartment for Christmas - see what happened below....

Nachdem wir nun mehrmals an dem leeren Grundstück vorbeigefahren sind, haben wir nun endlich unseren Starttermin erhalten: 09. Dezember 2009 geht es los. Wir koennen es kaum erwarten. Und da Weihnachten nun vor der Tür steht, haben wir auch unsere Wohnung dekoriert, hier is wie das aussieht:

Two days ago, on Friday 20th 2009, we got the approval from the bank for the loan. This means the actual construction will now start within the next few days, so check back frequently to know what's going on.
The weeks before we spent twice 4 hours at the studio to pick out all items, from wood in the kitchen to doorknobs in the bathroom. We never knew there are so many options but we managed to find a lot of nice things. Then we had to go home and cut the list by half to not jeopardize the appraisal of the home - this was the rather complicated and challenging process. But we also managed to do this and when we went back the second time we were able to already finalize everything.
We are now looking forward to the exciting start of the construction and will start planning all other items around the house, mainly the yard that is.

German Version - Deutcher Version

Am Freitag den 20.11.2009 wurde unser Kredit von der Bank genehmigt und wir koennen nun in die 1. Bauphase uebergehen. Also muesst ihr nun oefter vorbeischauen um auch ja nichts zu verpassen - bauen geht hier sehr schnell.
In den letzten Wochen waren wir zweimal in dem Studio gewesen, jeweils fuer 4 Stunden, um alle moeglichen Details auszusuchen. Von Holz in der Kueche ueber Teppich bis zu Tuerknoepfen im Bad. Nach dem ersten Besuch hatten wir eine schoene lange Liste die wir dann um die Haelfte kuerzen mussten weil die Bank nur einen gewissen Prozentsatz an 'Schnick-Schnack' finanziert. der 2. Besuch war dann auch der letzte und wir haben diesen Prozess erfolgreich abgeschlossen.
Nun geht es mit der Planung des Gartens, etc weiter, das sind Dinge die wir auf eigene Faust planen muessen.

A choice is made - Entscheidung gefallen

After Amber and I moved to Las Vegas in May 2009 and thankfully both found employment, we have been looking for a more permanent option to live in.
We visited around 25 model homes in and around of Las Vegas always searching for the perfect house for the upcoming years. As both of us are very picky and always found something to complain, one can imagine that this process was not very easy.
Nevertheless, there was one house that we liked right from the start, and it gives me great pleasure to say that I found it one day when I was driving around by myself. I showed it to Amber a day later and she also loved it right away. This was back in August. As we did not want to make a decision back then, we gave up on the house as there were only a few lots left and we did not think we would have a chance months later.
Last Thursday, out of boredom and curiosity we revisited the site and found that five lots were still available and we right away made the decision to make this neighborhood our new home.
Easier said than done as many of you might know. WE had to get pre-approved for the credit which WE did, WE had to pick a lot which WE did, and we had to decide the elevation and outside color which AMBER did.
Now the process can start and we are still in the very beginnings of this long, exciting process which we want to share with all of you in this blog. So please feel free to stop by any time on this website and check out what is going on and also do not hesitate to leave any comments, we appreciate all of them.

Nachdem Amber und ich im May diesen Jahres nach Las Vegas gezogen sind und Gott-sei-Dank beide eine feste Anstellung gefunden haben, haben wir auch auch begonnen uns nach einem Haus umzuschauen.
Wir haben uns so um die 25 Modell Häuser angeschaut, immer auf der Suche nach dem perfekten zu Hause für uns drei. Da wir beide doch sehr hohe Ansprüche haben war es doch nicht so einfach wie gedacht.
Allerdings gab es ein Haus das uns zu Beginn aufgefallen war. An einem freien Tag bin ich im August ein wenig durch die Gegend gefahren und habe dieses wunderschöne Haus entdeckt und am nächsten Tag direkt Amber gezeigt. Allerdings gab es dort nur noch sehr wenige Grundstücke und somit hatten wir die Hoffnung bereits aufgegeben.
Letzten Donnerstag, aus Langeweile und voller Neugier sind wir dann nocheinmal zu diesem Haus gefahren und haben gesehen das es noch 5 Grundstücke gab und haben dann direkt zugeschlagen.
Wie man sich vorstellen kann ist dies erst der Anfang, erste Hürden waren den Kredit zu erhalten, was bis jetzt gut aussieht. Dann mussten wir das Grundstück wählen, was wir auch getan haben. Und wir mussten auch noch die Farbe und Außenansicht des Hauses wählen, dies fiel natürlich in Ambers Bereich.
Nun kann es dann so langsam los gehen, viele spannende Schritte stehen noch an und wir wollen euch hier auf dem Laufenden halten. Also schaut bitte immer mal wieder vorbei, schaut was sich so tut und gebt auch immer einen Kommentar ab, um so mehr um so besser.
